a telephone call from U.S. President Barack Obama.
Discussions during the call dealt with relations between the

Qatar & Algeria Hold Talks |
|
A session of talks was held this afternoon at residence of
State in the Algerian capital between HH the Emir Sheikh
Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Algerian President Abdul Aziz
Bouteflika. The talks were attended by HE the Prime Minister
and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al
Thani and members of the official delegation accompanying HH
the Emir. On the Algerian side, the talks were attended by
Speaker of the National Assembly Abdul Qadir bin Saleh,
Deputy Minister of National Defence Abdul-Malik Guenaizia
and Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Ahmed Kaid, Minister of Foreign
Affairs Mourad Medelci and director general of the Arab
affairs department of Foreign Ministry Abdul Hameed Shabshob
. During the meeting, they discussed the existing relations
between the two countries and ways to boost and enhance
them, in addition to reviewing a number of regional and
international issues of common interest.

Qatar Airways to Begin Chicago Freighter Service |
|
Qatar Airways Cargo has announced it will begin scheduled
freighter services to Chicago, Illinois - its first
dedicated freighter operation to the United States - from
August 18. The new twice-weekly services will be operated
with Qatar Airways� new Boeing 777 freighters and will fly
from the airline�s hub in Doha via Amsterdam. Payloads on
the new services will be up to 100 tonnes per flight and are
expected to include freight items such as machinery,
textiles, auto parts, fruit and vegetables and general
cargo. Chicago is the airline�s first dedicated freighter
destination in the United States and the airline�s fourth
destination, following passenger and cargo services to New
York, Washington D.C. and Houston.

for Beirut starting a three-day official visit to Lebanon.
HH the Emir is accompanied by HH Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser
Al-Missned. HH the Emir is also accompanied by HH Sheikh
Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Personal Representative of HH
the Emir. HH the Emir is accompanied by HE the Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry Abdullah bin
Hamad Al-Attiyah and a high-level official delegation.

HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin
Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani received tonight a telephone call
from the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Discussions
during the call dealt with following up the developments of
the peace process in the Middle East in light of the results
of the Ministerial Meeting of the Arab peace initiative
Committee, and the letter sent by the Committee to the US
administration on the proposal of the State of Qatar
regarding the Arab approval to enter into direct
negotiations with the Israeli side, with specific
requirements. The two sides also reviewed bilateral
relations between Qatar and the United States in various
fields.

the US Envoy to the Peace Process in the Middle East Senator
George Mitchell. They reviewed during the call developments
of the peace process in the region in light of the outcome
of the Ministerial Committee on the Arab Peace Initiative
and the steps to be taken by the parties on the peace
negotiations in light of the letter sent by the Committee to
the US administration regarding the Arab approval to enter
into direct negotiations with the Israeli side.

from the Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa. During
the call, they reviewed the Arab move in the coming stage in
light of the results of the ministerial meeting of the Arab
Peace Initiative Committee, which was held earlier in the
day at the Arab League headquarters and the letter forwarded
by the Committee to the US administration on the proposal of
the State of Qatar regarding the Arab approval to enter into
direct negotiations with the Israeli side.

Sudanese Government, LJM Sign Extension of Ceasefire
Agreement |
|
The
Sudanese government the Liberation and Justice Movement
(LJM) initially signed Thursday an extension of the
ceasefire agreement, signed in Doha on March 18, 2009. HE
the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmad bin Abdullah
Al Mahmoud announced the signing after he chaired a meeting
for the higher committee of the agreement at the Doha
Sheraton Hotel.
HE Al Mahmoud noted that the extension includes and
organizes a mechanism for the implementation of the
ceasefire agreement between the Sudanese government and the
LJM.
The ceasefire extension was signed on behalf of the Sudanese
government by Head of its negotiating delegation Dr. Amin
Hasan Omar and on behalf of the LJM by its leader Dr. Tijani
Seise.
